About Patterson Glassworks

Collection of glassware including bowls and vases on a table with a blurred background.

Our gallery sits in the heart of Estes Park, Colorado, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains

Founded in 1986 by artist Garth Mudge, our studio and gallery in Estes Park, Colorado has welcomed thousands of visitors who have watched glassblowing in real time, many for the very first time.

Over the years, the space evolved into more than a studio: it became a place for mentorship, artistry, and craft to take root. Several professional glass artists began their careers here, including current owner Gerald (Jerry) Patterson, who first arrived in 1997 as a volunteer determined to “get his foot in the door.” After years of dedication, Jerry took ownership in 2012, continuing the legacy of the gallery and introducing his own style and artistry to the work.

Today, Patterson Glassworks continues to create one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate movement, texture, light, and imagination. No two pieces are the same. Some swirl like galaxies. Some shimmer like polished seashells or ocean tide pools. Others hold color the way stained glass gathers sunlight at dawn.

Glassblowing Techniques

  • Glassblowing

Working with molten glass is an art form that few have been able to master. We put our love for glassblowing into each and every piece. When you step into our shop, you’ll see the expertise that is clearly visible in our art. Our blown glass comes in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Some pieces you will see rolled in powdered or chipped pieces of colored glass that will create surreal patterns and colors in each piece. We have vases, platters, bowls, glasses, pitchers, kitchen accessories, seasonal decor, and fine art pieces–something for everyone. After viewing a glassblowing demonstration, you can browse through our gallery and bring home a memory of your visit to our glass shop.
  • Lampworked Glass

Have you heard of lampwork? Lampworking is a type of glasswork where a torch fueled by propane and oxygen is used to melt small rods of glass. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed into shape with tools and hand-crafting in order to create figurines, jewelry, beads, ornaments and marbles. It is also known as flameworking or torchworking, because the technique once used oil-fueled lamps to heat the glass.
  • Stained Glass

If you loved stained glass, we have the finest! In our store, we carry a variety of stained glass items such as hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and colorful window hangings. Your loved one will be thrilled when you gift them with a lovely stained glass piece. Adorn your home with something that catches the light.
